The Role

We’re hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to take end-to-end ownership of the backend systems behind our consumer products.

This is a hands-on senior position for someone comfortable owning complex systems in full: designing services and APIs, building data pipelines, running databases, wiring up blockchain infrastructure, and keeping production healthy under real traffic.

The work shifts with what the product needs. One month might be user-facing API work; the next could be designing an on-chain indexer, tuning database performance, hardening reliability, or standing up a new service from scratch. We’re looking for someone who finds that variety energising rather than unsettling.

What matters most is that you’ve done this before at scale. We want engineers who have built and operated systems serving real users in volume, and who know first-hand what high traffic, large datasets, and production incidents actually feel like.

You’ll be trusted with live systems within your first few weeks. This role assumes existing hands-on Web3 backend experience. It isn’t a position where you’ll pick up the blockchain side as you go.

Because our products sit close to wallets and on-chain finance, we place real weight on engineers who understand how decentralised applications behave in practice, not just protocol mechanics but how users actually interact with wallets, DeFi protocols, and on-chain financial systems.

You’ll work alongside product, infrastructure, and protocol teams to deliver systems that feel seamless to users across both conventional and blockchain-based applications.

What You’ll Do

• Own backend architecture and implementation across multiple products.
• Design, build, and maintain production APIs and services powering customer-facing applications.
• Build and run distributed systems that stay reliable at high volume.
• Architect for scalability, fault tolerance, and long-term maintainability.
• Build data pipelines, background workers, async processing, and event-driven systems.
• Build and maintain blockchain integrations and indexing systems that ingest, process, and serve on-chain data.
• Design database schemas, optimise complex queries, and plan for data growth.
• Bridge Web2 and Web3 infrastructure, connecting conventional backends to blockchain protocols.
• Debug production issues, performance bottlenecks, and scaling problems.
• Build strong observability, monitoring, alerting, and operational tooling.
• Improve architecture, deployment pipelines, and engineering practice over time.
• Move fast, decide independently, and ship production-ready work.

Requirements

Core Backend Engineering

• Substantial experience building and running production backend systems.
• Strong TypeScript skills and fluency with modern backend frameworks (NestJS, Fastify, Express, or comparable).
• Solid grounding in API design, service-oriented architecture, and distributed systems.
• Able to design and deliver complex systems with minimal supervision.

Scale

• A track record of building and operating backends serving large user bases in production.
• Experience designing for high traffic and heavy workloads.
• Strong grasp of performance tuning, concurrency, fault tolerance, and reliability.
• Experience where uptime and consistency directly affect end users.
• An operational mindset. You’ve handled incidents and scaling problems on live systems.

Data & Infrastructure

• Deep PostgreSQL expertise: schema design, indexing, query optimisation, migrations, production operations.
• Experience processing large volumes of structured or event-driven data.
• Strong understanding of observability, logging, and service health.

Web2 + Web3

• Experience building backends for modern consumer applications.
• Experience integrating blockchain infrastructure, node APIs, smart contracts, or decentralised protocols.
• Hands-on work with blockchain indexing, event processing pipelines, or other on-chain data infrastructure (The Graph, Subsquid, or custom indexers).
• Good working knowledge of wallet architecture, transaction lifecycle, signing flows, and on-chain data models.
• Experience building or integrating backends that talk to DeFi protocols.

Nice to Have

• Backend experience in Go.
• Kafka, NATS, RabbitMQ, or similar messaging systems.
• Docker and modern CI/CD.
• Open-source contributions to backend, infrastructure, or blockchain tooling.
• Genuine familiarity with the DeFi ecosystem: DEXs, lending protocols, staking, bridges, or similar.
