A well-funded, English-operating company building next-generation trading infrastructure at the intersection of traditional and decentralised finance. We’re developing a decentralised exchange with a fully on-chain order book, built on a purpose-designed execution and consensus layer tuned for low-latency, high-throughput trading.
The aim is a trustless venue that performs like a conventional matching engine while keeping execution transparent and as close to the chain as possible, capable of institutional volumes without shutting out retail participants.
Position Overview
We’re looking for a Senior Rust Backend Engineer with a background in high-performance, dependable trading APIs over HTTP and WebSocket. You’ll design, build, and tune the backend services behind our exchange interfaces, with latency, resilience, and correctness under load as the constant concerns.
The work sits in real-time, high-throughput territory: ingesting order and trade data, running live WebSocket feeds, and keeping internal state consistent from streaming market events. We’re after someone who is both a strong Rust engineer and a systems thinker, comfortable reasoning about concurrency, data flow, and observability in production.
The backend architecture is still taking shape, so there’s real scope to influence it, working with a distributed team of experienced engineers.
What You’ll Do
- Own the architecture and technical direction of high-performance trading APIs (HTTP and WebSocket) covering low-latency order entry, market data distribution, and account state updates.
- Lead the design of structured concurrency on the Tokio runtime, setting the house standards for task lifecycle, cancellation semantics, backpressure, and graceful degradation under load.
- Build and maintain real-time state ingestion pipelines:
- Process append-only logs such as trades, order updates, and book diffs.
- Rebuild local state efficiently from snapshots plus applied diffs.
- Model trading data structures: orders, fills, trades, positions, funding, and liquidation logic.
- Implement WebSocket connection handling, including upgrades, frame parsing, and fanout to subscribed clients.
- Design systems that are observable by default, with meaningful metrics, structured logging, and distributed tracing.
- Work with systems and infrastructure engineers on performance, scalability, and fault tolerance.
- Write thorough unit, integration, and load tests so the system holds up in production.
Requirements
Rust
- 5+ years of professional backend engineering, including 3+ years of Rust in production.
- Strong command of the Tokio async runtime and concurrent programming patterns.
- Deep understanding of structured concurrency and correct handling of spawned task cancellation.
- Hands-on experience with HTTP and WebSocket frameworks such as Hyper or equivalent.
Trading Literacy
- Solid grasp of CEX and DEX systems and trading models.
- Comfort modelling trading entities: orders, trades, positions, funding, mark price, margin, liquidation logic.
- Prior hands-on exposure to trading or market data, professional or personal.
State Ingestion & Processing
- Real experience with streaming data and real-time processing systems.
- Ability to design state that rebuilds efficiently from snapshots and diffs.
- Familiarity with replay, recovery, and correctness guarantees in event-driven systems.
WebSocket Engineering
- Working knowledge of connection upgrades, frame parsing, and fanout to subscribed clients.
Observability
- Ability to instrument systems for metrics, logging, and tracing.
- Production experience with Prometheus and OpenTelemetry.
- A track record of tracking down performance bottlenecks and handling production incidents.

- Deep understanding of lock-free or lock-avoidant data structures.
- Experience with cache-friendly data layouts and memory locality in latency-sensitive systems.
- Skill in CPU and memory profiling, and diagnosing latency in real-time event pipelines.
